Records indicate that this center offered 76 beds, standing 24 above the county average for the period. An average of 68.9 residents were cared for throughout the quarter.
The CMS provided Market Square Health Care Center, LLC an overall rating of 2 out of 5. This is lower than the statewide average rating of 2.9 for Maine’s nursing homes.
For the first quarter, the second largest nursing facility in Oxford County was Maine Veterans Home – So Paris, with 62 beds. Pinnacle Health & Rehab Canton ranked third, offering 47 beds.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the population of older adults in the U.S. continues to expand as younger demographics decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, the 65 and older demographic rose by 13%, while those under age 18 declined by 1.7%. The nation’s older adult population has experienced significant growth over the last century, increasing from 4.9 million in 1920 to just over 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 study indicates that close to half of these older adults, or about 28 million people, may need long-term services and support. In addition, the findings estimate that more than a third could eventually require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an education organization for insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
