Today we have a new SCAM that is causing a number of phone calls to the REAL Franklin County Sheriff's Office. A person claiming to be Sergeant Nealy from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office was calling people to tell them that they were being subpoenaed for jury duty. The message he is leaving includes a "private number" to the sheriff's office. We do not have anyone by that name here and we do not give "private numbers" for people to call us. This is a reminder that no police officer will ever call you to tell you that you have a warrant for your arrest or that you are being subpoenaed. That is all done by the court system and is done by mail. We have tried ourselves to call "Sergeant Nealy" and he will not take our calls. We even left messages for him asking that he call us and he will not return our calls. Should you ever receive a phone call from someone claiming to be law enforcement, please get as much information from them as possible without giving them any of your information. Never provide your personal address, date of birth or social security numbers. The police already have all that information and would never ask you for it. You should then call your local law enforcement agency's published phone number and ask to speak with an officer. Most frequently phones for law enforcement agencies are answered by a dispatch center and then forwarded to the police. Please be cautious about ever providing any personal information over the phone.
