University of Maine at Farmington Lasers Pressure Leads to Victory Over Beavers

Lasell University used a smothering full court press to create havoc all game long and wound up taking down the University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team 73-55 in the final game of the Beaver Classic on Sunday afternoon.

The first quarter was an evenly played, back and forth quarter. After the teams exchanged buckets for the first three minutes of the game, the Lasers would go on a 9-0 run to take
a 15-7 lead with 2:21 left in the first quarter. The Beavers would respond with a 7-0 run of their own led by a Jaycie Stevens (Pittston, Maine) three pointer sandwiched between layups from Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) and Rosalie White (Lisbon, Maine).

The Lasers increased their pressure in the second quarter, forcing 11 Beaver turnovers and would turn their four point first quarter lead into an 18 point lead 5:30 into the second quarter. Maddy White (Waldoboro, Maine) hit four free throws late in the second quarter to help cut the Laser lead to 13 going into halftime.

After a Jalyn Stacey (West Baldwin, Maine) hit a layup on the Beavers first possession of the second half, the Lasers would respond with a 11-0 run to take a 22 point lead with 3:34 left in the third. A pair of Rosalie White layups and a Mikayla Rioux (Winslow, Maine) three helped the Beavers deficit to 16 going into the fourth quarter.

A pair of Rioux free throws, another Rioux three, and a jumper from Stacy helped the Beavers pull within 10. The Beavers would not get any closer as the Lasers would finish on a 14-6 run to pull away with the win.

The Beavers had five different players score at least eight points, led by Stacey's 11 and Rioux's 10 off the bench.

The Lasers were led by Juju Nealy (Fitchburg, Mass.) who tallied 23 points to go along with six assists. Sydney Brundage (Abington, Mass.) and Jasmine Depina (Providence, R.I.) each scored 10 points off the bench for the Laser.

Each team now sits at 1-3 on the year.
