Lauren Kessen/Women's Alpine Skiing | University of Maine at Farmington
Lauren Kessen (Sussex, Wisc.) took home a pair of 1st place finishes on Saturday to help lead the Beavers to victories in the slalom and giant slalom events at Pleasant Mountain.
Kessen was phenomenal all day, putting together the four fastest runs of anyone in both events.
Giant Slalom:
Kessen's first giant slalom run she finished in 34.65 seconds before following up that run with 34.85 second time in her 2nd run. Kessen's cumulative time of 1:09.49 was 2.76 seconds faster than any other racer.
Grace Mahmood (Oxford, Conn.) finished in 2nd overall with a cumulative run time of 1:12.25 to join Kessen on the podium. Mahmood was able to finish her 1st run in 34.96 seconds, the 3rd fastest time of any run on the day.
Tegan Andrew (Goffstown, N.H.) came in 7th place overall. Andrew raced to a 36.31 second time in her 1st run and followed that up with a 38.74 second time in her 2nd run for a cumulative time of 1:15.05.
Kessen, Mahmood, and Andrew combined for cumulative time of 3:36.79 and nine place points to beat out the Saint Joseph's College Monks who came in 2nd place with a cumulative time of 3:40.00 and 11 place points.
Slalom:
As good as Kessen was in giant slalom, she might have been even better in slalom. Kessen finished her 1st run in 52.64 seconds and her second run in 54.97 seconds for a cumulative time of 1:47.61. Outside of Kessen, there were only three other runs that were under 1:00 in time. Kessen's two-run time also was 15.07 seconds faster than any other skier.
Mahmood put together another solid performance, once again finishing inside the top five. This time with a 4th place finish. Mahmood finished her two runs with a cumulative time of 2:05.91.
Jocelyn Stevens (Stratton, Maine) also finished inside the top 10 for the Beavers. Stevens finished in 9th place with a two-run time of 2:14.97.
Kessen, Mahmood, and Stevens combined for a time of 6:08.39 and 14 place points. The Monks finished in 2nd place with a cumulative time of 6:16.09 and 13 place points.
