Justin Castaldo/Men's Track and Field | University of Maine at Farmington
The University of Maine at Farmington Men's and Women's track and field teams each placed in 6th place out of eight teams at the Maine State Championships today hosted by Bates College. Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, Southern Maine, Husson, Saint Joseph's and Thomas also competed at the meet.
The men's team totaled 24 points while the women's team totaled 26 points.
Men's Highlights
In the 600 meter race, sophomore Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) placed in 6th place finishing the race in 1:27.6. Castaldo scored three points with his 6th place finish.
In the 5,000 meter run, junior Covy Dufort (Wells, Maine) finished 7.5 seconds out of 1st place with a time of 15:38.37 to come in 4th place overall. Dufort scored five points with his 4th place finish.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team made up of Castaldo, Tom Gingras (Gardiner, Maine), Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine), and Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) came in 7th place, scoring two points after finishing the relay with a time of 3:47.99.
In the high jump, Vachon scored two points with a 6.32 meter jump, finishing in 7th place overall.
Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) finished in 4th place in the shot put with a throw of 13.70 meters. Canwell totaled five points with the throw. Canwell placed in the top-three with a 3rd place finish in the weight throw. Canwell's throw traveled a distance of 15.74 meters. He tallied six points with the finish.
Alex Sheran (Nashua, N.H.) also scored for Beavers in the shot put with an 8th place finish. Sheran's throw measured in at 11.88 meters to score one point.
Women's Highlights
In the 400 meters Charlotte Wentworth (Sidney, Maine) finished 0.56 seconds out of scoring position with a 9th place finish in 1:07.57.
In the 600 meter run Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) placed in 6th place, scoring three points, finishing in 1:50.36.
Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) scored three points while placing 6th overall in the 60 meter hurdles. Johnson finished with a time of 10.07 seconds. Johnson finished the preliminaries in 10.06 seconds and in 7th place to return to the finals.
The Beavers 4x400 meter relay team of Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine), Sarah Chapin (Readfield, Maine), Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.) and Kennedy Todd (Scaraborough, Maine) placed in 7th place with a time of 4:55.04 and scoring two points.
The Beavers 4x800 meter relay team of MacDonald, Abby Minott (Bath, Maine), Eve Poteet (Fairhill, Maryland), and Wentworth placed in 5th place, scoring four points. The team finished with a time of 11:01.39.
Minott and Johnson each placed inside the top-three in the triple jump. They tied for 2nd place with a jump of 10.37 meters to combine to score 14 points.
