The UMF Men's Soccer team dropped their season opening contest on the road against the Plymouth State Panthers, 4-1.
The Panthers jumped out to a lead in the 35th minute on a goal by sophomore Walter Driscoll. The Panthers quickly doubled their lead just five minutes later on a goal by sophomore Sondre Asheim. In the second half, the Panthers added a third tally, making the score 3-0 on a goal by senior Eric Higgins.
The Beavers were able to cut into the Panthers lead in the 59th minute on a goal by junior midfielder Trevor Krueger (Sandwich, Mass.). The goal from Krueger was the first of his collegiate career. Cade McHugh (Little Compton, RI) tallied the assist on the goal.
Junior Jacob Santos finished off the scoring with a goal in the 84th minute, making the score 4-1.
Senior goalkeeper Jonah Sautter (Lisbon Falls, Maine) finished the game with five saves in net for the Beavers.
The Panthers out shot the Beavers by a 22-12 margin and a 9-6 margin in shots on goal. The Beavers held the advantage in corner kicks 9-7.
The Beavers return to action next Saturday, September 10th, in a huge North Atlantic Conference contest at home against Husson University.
