The UMaine-Farmington Beavers grabbed their first win of the season on Sunday as they took down the Norwich University Cadets 1-0 at Sabine Field. The Beavers were able to even their record up at 1-1 following the victory, while the Cadets fell to 2-1 after the defeat.
For the Beavers, junior forward Audrey Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine) scored her first goal of the season, an unassisted mark, in the 55th minute to give the Beaver the 1-0 lead. The Beavers were able to withstand some pressure from the Cadets throughout the contest as freshman goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) made ten saves as she registered her first collegiate shutout.
For the match, the Cadets outshot the Beavers 14-4 and 10-4 in shots on goal. The Cadets also head an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Historically speaking, today's contest between the two teams marks the first time the two programs have met.
The Beavers will look to double their win total next Saturday, September 10th in their North Atlantic Conference and home opener against rival Husson University.
