On Sunday afternoon at Leib Field, the University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team had the opportunity to honor their three seniors. Yusuf Mohamed (Lewiston, Maine), Jonah Sautter (Lisbon Falls, Maine) and Alex Thompson (Auburn, Maine) were honored and appreciated for all that they have brought to the soccer program prior to the start of this afternoon's game.
The Tufts University Jumbos played spoiler on Sunday afternoon in defeating the Beavers 3-0. The Beavers and Sautter played a very strong defensive first half as Sautter registered six saves including a pair of diving saves to keep the Jumbos off the scoreboard and keep the game tied going into halftime.
In the second half the Jumbos turned their pressure up a notch, tallying three goals including a pair two minutes and 36 seconds apart. In the 56th minute Ethan Feigin (Bethesda, Maryland) fired a low, hard shot on net where Sautter made a great kick save to deny the chance. The rebound directed right to Sean Traynor (Rye, N.Y.) who put it home to give the Tufts the lead.
Taylor Feinberg (Scarsdale, N.Y.) doubled the lead for the Jumbos after he fired one home off an assist from Max Cook (Seattle, Wash.). The Jumbos would tally one more in the 88th minute when Anthony Bhandia (Lewisburg, Penn.) redirected a shot into the back of the net and finished off Sunday afternoon's scoring.
The Beavers were unable to get much going on the offensive end of the field, tallying three shots including two on frame in the contest. The Jumbos rattled off 30 shots and 14 on frame. Sautter made 12 saves in the defeat.
The Beavers drop to 6-5-2 on the season while the Jumbos improve to 6-2-5 on the year.
