Bowdoin College hosted 35 teams today at the NCAA Division III East Region Cross Country Championship. The University of Maine at Farmington women's cross country team placed in 26th place as their team produced an average 6k time of 26:55 on the day.
The Beavers were paced on the course today by sophomore Charlotte Wentworth (Sidney, Maine) who finished in 93rd place with a time of 25:09.5. Following Wentworth was fellow sophomore Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) who placed 105th in 25:40.2.
Freshman Eve Poteet (Fairhill, Maryland) was the third Beaver to cross the finish line as she did so in 27:07.2, good for 138th place. Sophomore Kaylee-Mae Durgin (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) finished narrowly behind her in 146th place with a time of 27:30.5.
Senior Sarah Chapin (Readfield, Maine) and Angie Tehuitzil (Northglenn, Colo.) finished three seconds apart to come in 190th and 191st place respectively. Chapin finished in 29:13.2 and Tehuitzil in 29:16.9. Senior Emily Eaton (Hampton, N.H.) came in 201st place with a time of 29:53.1.
This year's regional meet was a great improvement for the Beavers from just a season ago. The Beavers were able to cut off 1:27 from their team average as nn last year's regional meet, the Beavers team average stood at 28:22. The Beavers also had personal best times from Wentworth, MacDonald, Durgin, Poteet, and Chapin.
MIT clinched a spot in the Division III National Championship as they came in first place with an average time of 22:37. The Engineers had three finishers inside the top six. From an individual standpoint, Bates' Jillian Richardson finished in first place in 21:41.1, 44 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
The regional meet marks the end of the season for the Beavers.
