The University of Maine at Farmington men's cross country team took home 12th place out of the 33 teams that competed at today's NCAA Division III East Regional Cross Country Championship hosted by Bowdoin College. The Beavers finished with an average 8k time of 28:14.
The Beaver were able to jump up nine places from last season's regional meet, after finishing in 21st place a year ago. Junior Covy Dufort (Wells, Maine) was the first Beaver to cross the finish line as he did so in 27:18.8. First team All-NAC runner, Luke Bliss (Underhill, Vermont) finished in 27:59.9, good for 67th place.
Sophomores Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) and Jimmy Reel (Nashua, N.H.) finished in 80th and 81st respectively with times of 28:26.8 and 28:27.3. Sophomore Connor Freeman (Bath, Maine) was the fifth scoring runner for the Beavers, coming in 107th place after finishing in 29:02.1.
Sophomore Madison Brown (Gorham, Maine) came in 205th place with a time of 33:12.3.
MIT took home the NCAA Division III East Region men's cross country Championship and punched their ticket to the NCAA Division III National Championship after having five runners place inside the top eight and amassing 21 points. Colby College's Tyler Morris finished in first place with a time of 24:55.6, 30 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
With the 12th place finish, the Beavers finished ahead of the University of Southern Maine. Today's regional meet marks the first time in men's program history that they have finished ahead of the Huskies.
Today's regional meet finishes off an outstanding and record breaking season for the Beavers.
