On day two of the Naismith Classic hosted by Springfield College, the University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team used a big second half en route to posting a big 88-63 victory over Roger Williams University.
A day after suffering a hard fought loss to Wesleyan University, the Beavers jumped out of the gates strong, opening the game up on a 16-2 run. The run was sparked by Terion Moss (Portland) who scored 12 of the 16 points, including a pair of threes in the first six minutes of the game.
The Hawks closed the half out strong. With the Beavers holding a 29-17 lead with 4:53 left to play, the Hawks went on a 11-2 spurt, cutting the Beavers lead to just three. The Beavers would take a five point lead into the halftime intermission.
The Beavers responded quickly in the second half, quickly going on a 16-4 run to take a 17 points lead with 14 minutes to play. The Beavers' run was led by Moss and Jack Kane (Cumberland, Maine) who combined to score 14 of the 16 points over that stretch.
The Hawks drew within a dozen with 9:30 left to play, but could get no closer as the Beavers once again went on a 16-2 run to take an 82-56 lead, pulling away and polishing off the Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
Moss led the charge for the Beavers, totaling 34 points, seven rebounds, and six assists on 14-21 shooting from the field and 4-6 from downtown. Kane tallied his second double-double of the season as he put up 19 points and 13 boards, while adding four blocks on 9-12 shooting. Kyle Donlin (Warren, Maine) put together a strong performance as well for the Beavers, pitching in with 14 points and six rebounds.
The Hawks were led by Mac Annus who scored a team-high 17 points and added five rebounds. Sean Gogolin added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.
The Beavers improve to 5-4 on the season while the Hawks record now sits at 6-4.
