Terion Moss/Men's Basketball | University of Maine at Farmington
A day after the University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team took down Husson University at home in Dearborn Gymnasium, traveled to Bangor and took down the Eagles once again and completed the vital North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekend sweep. The Beavers took down the Eagles 76-58 on Saturday evening.
After Saturday's contest the Beavers improved to 11-7 on the season with a 7-1 in NAC play and 4-0 in NAC East play. Husson falls to 7-11 on the season with a 5-2 record in NAC play and 1-2 in NAC East division.
Terion Moss (Portland, Maine) put together one of his signature performances, putting up 27 points on 8-18 shooting from the field, five rebounds and five assists. Moss also shot an impressive 10-11 from the free throw line.
Saturday's contest opened up very similarly to the way Friday's contest did, with both teams struggling to score and an extremely physical defensive battle. The Beavers shot just 26.7% (7-26) from the field in the half, but were able to make 12-14 from the free throw line to take a 29-28 lead into halftime.
Similarly to Friday's game, the Beavers fell behind in the first 10 minutes of the game, but were able right the ship and quickly respond. After falling behind 19-10 in the first 10 minutes, the Beavers closed out the half on a 19-9 run.
The Beavers offense got rolling in the 2nd half, shooting 51.9% (14-27) from the field and 88.9% (16-18) from the free throw line.
Despite shots beginning to fall in the 2nd half for the Beavers, they were unable to pull away quickly from the Eagles. For the first 10:30 minutes of the half the Beavers lead hung between five and eight points. It wasn't until a Dylan Griffin (Saco, Maine) three with 9:04 left in the game that Beavers were able to take their first double-digit lead.
Eric Ahlers responded with a three-pointer of his own to cut the Beavers lead to 53-46. But the Beavers shifted into another gear, going on an 11-0 run over the next 3:21 to go up 18 and all but put the game away.
Moss did a lot of his damage in the 2nd half, scoring 19 points on 6-11 shooting from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Moss also added five assists and four rebounds in the half.
Jack Kane (Cumberland, Maine) was a presence on both ends of the court once again for the Beavers, finishing with 12 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks. Kane shot a flawless 8-8 from the free throw line. Zachary Mickle (Billerica, Mass.) added 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Justice Kendall paced the Eagles with a team-high 15 points.
